Ian Madsen Outlasts Lasoski for First Career National Sprint League Triumph

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 30, 2016) – Ian Madsen became the ninth different winner on the National Sprint League circuit this season when he outlasted new points leader Danny Lasoski for the triumph on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

It marked the first career trip to NSL Victory Lane for Madsen, who was a man on a mission from the drop of the green flag.

“I’m really happy to get the win,” he said. “I went as hard as I could for 25 laps.”

Madsen and fellow Australian Jamie Veal exchanged the lead in each set of corners during the first lap and a half with Madsen sliding Veal for the top spot in turns three and four on the opening lap before getting loose as he exited turn four. That allowed Veal to sneak around the outside and narrowly lead Lap 1.

Madsen regained the lead with a slide job in turns one and two on the ensuing lap. Veal remained within striking distance until he suddenly pulled into the pits on Lap 11. That allowed Lasoski to advance into the runner-up position and he closed more than a two-second disadvantage to Madsen in traffic during the middle of the race.

Madsen’s lead was less than half a second with five laps remaining as the top two battled in traffic. Madsen squeezed between a pair of cars in traffic exiting turn two with a few laps remaining while Lasoski was stuck on the bottom, which gave Madsen enough breathing room to garner the victory by a little more than seven tenths of a second.

Madsen is the fifth winner in eight NSL races at Knoxville Raceway this season.

Lasoski’s second-place finish sealed his record 11th track championship at Knoxville Raceway and it regained the lead in the National Sprint League championship standings by 52 points.

Brian Brown rounded out the podium with Sammy Swindell advancing to a fourth-place finish and Craig Dollansky, who entered the main event leading the NSL standings, ending fifth.

Lasoski opened the night by setting quick time in qualifying for the fourth straight race. That gave him a four-point lead in the championship standings before Dollansky regained the lead following heat race competition.

The heat races were won by R.J. Johnson, Josh Schneiderman, Dustin Selvage and Brooke Tatnell with Tasker Phillips claiming the B Main.

The National Sprint League’s weekend tripleheader will wrap up on Sunday at Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, where 24 cars will advance into the $1,000-to-start A Main.

Adult tickets are $20 and $10 for children ages 5 to 12. Children 4 and younger are free. The front gate is scheduled to open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. Speed Shift TV will have live Pay-Per-View video at http://www.SpeedShiftTV.com.
