Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 2, 2016) – Ian Madsen won a thriller on a picturesque Friday evening at Jackson Motorplex during the opening night of the three-day 38th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

Madsen outlasted his brother, Kerry, along with Danny Lasoski and Sam Hafertepe Jr. as the four drivers duked it out during the final laps of the Last-Deck® 360 Sprint Cars featuring the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour main event at the half-mile oval.

All four drivers are locked into the first two rows of Sunday’s $10,000-to-win finale following Friday’s result.

“It got really fun in the main event because it seemed like the lines kept changing,” Ian Madsen said. “That was the goal coming into the night was just to get locked in. Getting the win was a bonus.”

Madsen took the lead on the opening lap and it appeared he had the track and competition tamed throughout the first two thirds of the 25-lap main event. However, both Kerry Madsen and Lasoski made late charges to compete for the win.

“I wasn’t really on cruise control, I just kinda didn’t really know where to run,” Ian Madsen said. “I felt my line was slowing down. It just took Hafertepe to show me to move up and the car just kinda come in once we got on the top in (turns) one and two.”

Hafertepe Jr. took the lead on Lap 19 before Ian Madsen regained the top spot on the ensuing lap. Kerry Madsen and Lasoski both passed Hafertepe Jr. on Lap 22 as the top four drivers crossed the start/finish line within seven tenths of a second of each other.

Kerry Madsen attempted a slide job for the lead, but Ian Madsen was able to hold onto the lead to garner his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win of the season. It was Madsen’s third Last-Deck® 360 Sprint Cars triumph at Jackson Motorplex this year.

Kerry Madsen, who started the race eighth, held off 12th-starting Lasoski for the runner-up result.

“I wanted to win it, but that was a great race,” Madsen said. “We dropped back to ninth or 10th there at one stage. To battle back, that’s a good race car. Once I figured out how to drive it and stuck to my guns and lines we went forward and made good progress.”

Lasoski was disappointed with the result, but pleased in the bigger picture at locking his Mark Burch Motorsports entry into Sunday’s main event.

“About five (laps) to go I made two laps with driver errors and it cost me a lot of car lengths,” he said. “The last two laps I got those back. I’m not saying we could have won, but second could have definitely been a possibility.

“Hopefully we get another race track like this (on Sunday). Hats off to everyone here at Jackson Motorplex. This is what we want. Give us something wide so we can race and put on a race like this.”

Hafertepe Jr. edged Johnny Herrera, who spent the first two thirds of the race battling between second and fourth place, for the final lock-in position to Sunday’s main event.

Carson McCarl, Tim Kaeding, Hafertepe Jr., Seth Bergman and Tasker Phillips each won a heat race. Skylar Prochaska and Matt Covington were the B Main winners.

Additionally, Gregg Bakker, who placed third in the second B Main to earn the final transfer position into the main event, advanced from 22nd to 13th to lock up the Jackson Motorplex Last-Deck® 360 Sprint Cars championship.

Heartland Racing Association Non-Wing Sprint Cars

Bret Mellenberndt was victorious during the Heartland Racing Association Non-Wing Sprint Cars main event with Ned Powers placing a close second.

Jeremy Kerzman, 10th-starting Brandon Halverson and Miles Grein rounded out the top five, respectively.

Powers and Kerzman were the heat race winners.

Jackson Motorplex hosts Night 2 of the 38th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals on Saturday when Spirit Lake Silver & Gold NSL 410 Sprint Cars with the National Sprint League and the Heartland Racing Association Non-Wing Sprint Cars will be in action.

The event finale is Sunday and will showcase a $25,000-to-win main event for the Spirit Lake Silver & Gold NSL 410 Sprint Cars with the National Sprint League and a $10,000-to-win feature for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Adult tickets are $30 for Saturday and $35 for Sunday. Reserved seats are available for sale online at http://www.JacksonMotorplex.com.
