Ian Madsen Runs Well With Outlaws; Moberly, MO and Knoxville, IA on the Docket This Week

PETERSEN MEDIA- Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team battled with the World of Outlaws on three occasions over the last week and came away with some good runs that saw them record a couple of Top-10 finishes with the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’.

‘We had a couple of good runs at Knoxville with the Outlaws and then we kind of struggled with them in the feature on Tuesday night in Nebraska,” Madsen noted.

Friday night, Madsen and company welcomed the series to Knoxville Raceway, a track the team has found success at thus far in 2017.

Friday night, Madsen kicked the busy stretch off by timing the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring entry in fifth fastest in the first qualifying flight. Finishing fourth in his heat race, Madsen would move directly into the feature event where he would line up in the 13th starting position.

On a slick racing surface that would end up taking rubber in places, Madsen showed the some of the best in the business how to get around the famous ½ mile. Working his way forward, Madsen would get up to the seventh spot when the race came to a close.

Back on Saturday night for the finale at the Marion County Fairgrounds, Madsen would lay down an even better lap during time trials as he would time in third fastest on this night in his qualifying flight.

Running in the second spot to David Gravel in his heat race, Madsen would put the Bobcat/Team Kline Electric/Greenland Homes machine in the all-important Dash, and his fifth place finish put him in the third row for the 25-lap feature event.

Losing some positions early in the race, Madsen would make the topside work as the laps clicked down, as he was able to make up ground. Getting up to fourth, Madsen would hook up in a very entertaining battle with Brad Sweet that saw the duo exchange the final spot on the podium for a number of laps. In the end, Madsen would close the two-night event out with a fourth place finish.

Getting upside down on the first lap of the feature on Sunday night with the All Stars in Burlington, IA, Madsen and company would travel to Eagle, NE on Tuesday to reunite with the Outlaws.

Qualifying fifth fastest, Madsen would battle with his older brother, Kerry, during his heat race, and a second place finish would again put him in the Dash.

Finishing fifth for the second night in a row, Madsen would again take the green flag from the third row.

Unable to capitalize on the good starting position, Madsen would have his hands full during the 30-lap affair. Early on in the feature event, Madsen would get into a rut and upset his entry. His car would carry into the wall and it would result in some damaged suspension parts and he would have a tough go the rest of the nght.

“It was a pretty tough stretch, but my guys worked hard and we brought a fast car out each night,” Madsen said. “We had tough night on Sunday, and at Eagle Raceway we just hurt a shock and some other parts early in the feature and had our hands full most of the race.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-44, Wins-7, Top-5’s- 19, Top 10’s-31

ON TAP: Madsen and the KCP Racing team will take on the ASCS National Tour in Moberly, MO on Friday night before returning to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
