PETERSEN MEDIA- With all eyes in the sprint car world focusing on Knoxville Raceway for the next two weeks with both the 360 and 410 Nationals taking center stage, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team competed in both divisions on Saturday night for one final tune and seemed up to the challenge as they ran second in 360ci action and fourth with in the 410ci car.

“It’s a busy week at Knoxville Raceway now, and we feel really good about both the 360 Nationals and the Knoxville Nationals,” Ian Madsen said. “We are fortunate to run weekly at Knoxville Raceway, so hopefully we can perform well with the big money on the line.”

In 360ci action, Madsen would time the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials. Lining up fifth in his heat race, Madsen would move forward as he recorded a third place finish and moved into the 25-lap feature event.

Lining up on the front row for the feature event, Madsen would get off to a slow start as he would slip back as far as fifth in the early goings of the feature event.

The uncharacteristic start would not last long for the St. Marys, NSW native as he would begin going forward as he got by Sawyer Phillips for fourth, and began chasing after Sam Hafertepe who ran third just ahead of him.

On the 16th lap, Brian Brown would slow, and it would move Madsen into second with nine laps to go in the race. The late restart would see Madsen get around the ASCS National point leader to take over the second spot as he then chased after leader, Terry McCarl. Unable to get to TMac, Madsen would end his final 360 race before the 360 Nationals in the second spot.

410 action would also see Madsen run up front. Though he timed in 13th in time trials, Madsen charged from the second row of his heat race to grab the win and place the Bobcat/Kline Electric/Greenland Homes entry in the fourth row of the 20-lap feature event.

Running seventh for the first trio of laps, Madsen would pick up a couple of positions on a restart as he soon found himself in the fifth position on lap eight. Another restart would see Madsen and Madsen go to battle as Ian would briefly take over the third spot as it turned into an all Australian battle as Brooke Tatnell would enter the equation.

Battling for third, fourth, and fifth for a handful of laps, Madsen would end up back in the fourth position when the race came to an end.

“It was a lot of fun racing with some really good cars,” Madsen added. “We have a really good package, and we will keep trying to do the same stuff and treat these next couple of weeks as normal as we can.”

Getting my Matt Juhl for fourth, Madsen would begin to chase after older brother, Kerry, on the eighth lap as he looked for a spot on the podium.
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-64, Wins-9, Top-5’s- 28, Top 10’s-43

ON TAP: Madsen and the KCP Racing are slated to tackle Knoxvile Raceway for the 360 Nationals on Thursday and Saturday night, and are scheduled to be back at Knoxville on Sunday night for the Capitani Classic.
