Ian Madsen and KCP Racing 2nd at World of Outlaws Return to Racing

PETERSEN MEDIA- Friday night in Knoxville, IA the World of Outlaws made their long awaited to racing as they invaded the famed Knoxville Raceway in a historical event that saw Ian Madsen flirt with the win as he came home with a second place finish.

“That is definitely one I will think about for a while and replay in my head,” Madsen said. “It is great to be up front with these guys, and up here on the podium, but to come that close to grabbing a win and coming up short really pisses you off.”

With 48 of the country’s toughest competitors back in the pit area in front of an empty stadium, and only DirtVision cameras rolling, Madsen got the night started by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in fifth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Moving into heat race action, the St. Marys, NSW driver would race his way to the all important win which propelled him into the DirtVision Fastpass Dash. Pulling the two, the two-time Knoxville Raceway Champion would take advantage of the prime starting position as he grabbed the win and led the field to green for the 30-lap feature event.

Starting alongside Daryn Pittman in the ‘A’, Madsen would hold down the second spot during much of the first third of the race as he attacked the Knoxville Raceway cushion.

Able to get by Pittman on the 8th circuit, Madsen would begin to pull away as his Tyler Swank prepared entry looked stout in clean air. As the race continued on and got into traffic, Madsen would soon feel pressure from 2019 Knoxville Nationals Champion, David Gravel, who had his machined glued to the track’s inside groove.

As Gravel continued to apply pressure, Madsen continued to work the high side of the speedway and keep the advantage.

A near disaster with two laps to go in the race saw Madsen trip over the cushion in turns three and four and this allowed Gravel to eat up an advantage that Madsen had built.

Continuing to lead the way and again opening his lead up, Madsen would get a little tight on the ext of turn four coming to the white flag, and his slight bobble would allow Gravel to sneak by and take over the race lead.

Chasing after Gravel for one final trip around the ½ mile, Madsen would be unable to get to him and capped his Friday night with a second-place finish.

“Hats off to Tyler Swank, and Adam Clark,” Madsen added. “They have these KCP Racing cars so good right now, and we are focused on winning next weekend in Jackson, MN. Thanks to all of our partners for sticking with us, and big thanks to Matt Barbara and Bret Nehring for allowing us to continue to race together.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, , Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
